Color

In all of my experiences I am compelled to seek out color. It's addictive. It's the closest thing to tangible emotion. The reds are especially intriguing. They pull my eyes like candied apples; like cherries; like fire. Color is like visual food.

Figures

The characters that I paint are of a particular interest of mine. Usually I find myself within the personality of my figures. Their faces are down to earth and comforting. Each figure reveals more than just a pose. There is a mystery in the eyes- a secret waiting.

Houses

There is something comforting about the old houses in New Orleans. Painting houses comes naturally. I need no ruler to straighten any gutters, shutters, porches or wooden siding. My brush rides along perfectly with the naturally warped lines and edges of these dated houses. Houses are like people to me. Each has its own space, its own color, its own constitution. Its no surprise that when there is no one in a painted neighborhood, there is still a sense of hidden people.

I like to think of my work as ripe fruit and vegetables. It has an edible appearance. The colors are bold and fresh and the images are inviting. I want my viewers to look at my work and feel overwhelmed.
